A little over 40 years ago two of our cousins prepared a chronology describing the family of David Eleazer Pieniek, his wife Rana Temara , and their children and children's children for about 5 generations. David Joshua Pieniek and David Leon Skop's "The Pieniek Roots" was the basis for most of the Pieniek family research recorded in the MyHeritage site, and as such, most of the genealogical information in other internet sites, including Geni, GenoPro and others. While they were closer in time to the families recorded and had first-hand knowledge of their cousins, today we have access to official records from Poland, testimonies from Yad Vashem, census records in the U.S. going back to 1900, immigration records, online access to gravestones throughout the world, and other genealogical sources that can complete the picture.

I have taken it upon myself to research and rediscover the Pieniek family. "The Pieniek Roots" records the story of 175 family members originating in Dobrzyn, Poland. In some instances, the authors write, "We have lost contact with these cousins." Today, I have recorded about 850 Pienieks, ancestors and descendants, from David Eleazer Pieniek's grandfather dating from the middle of the 18th century up until my grandson who was born just a few months ago.

You can see the Pieniek family on MyHeritage, an online genealogy platform. (It is available free to registered members. And don't worry, information about living members is visible only to family members.)

I am asking you to take part in mapping the family – updates and information about marriages, re-marriages, parents, grandparents, and cousins. Most appreciated would be stories, recollections, family traditions, as well as scans of documents, old and new pictures. This information is transferred to the MyHeritage site and then to this Pieniek Roots website. You can add the information directly to MyHeritage or send it to me.

We have a wonderful, diversified family, with representatives all over the world. The world is getting smaller every day.

I look forward to answering any questions, best at pieniek.roots@gmail.com. I am also available by phone (972) 52-3132142 (not on Shabbat).
