Getting the family back together...

I have been researching my grandmother's family, the Pienieks, for over four decades. Literally. The family was from Dobrzyn - that's about all my grandmother said, and as a child I didn't know to ask for more. As a child I remember "Family Circle" meetings where second and third cousins would come and meet -probably about once a year or so, but I have no recollection of what was discussed. (If only the minutes of those meetings were still around - what a treasure trove that would be!) Only as an adult did I realize how precious family history is.
When I began my research I spoke with relatives and asked for their memories. With the advent of the internet, more and more official records have become available - both from the United States Archives as well as from Polish Archives. It turns out there are hundreds of Pienieks from Dobrzyn and surrounding towns. I'm guessing that many are related to us. Little by little we can figure out how.
The purpose of this site is first and foremost to record the stories of our family. Every person is entire world, and together, the family has a rich and diversified heritage. Secondly, through this site we can connect to more and more of our Pieniek cousins.
I welcome you to contribute - memories, pictures, documents, and suggestions.
Great job, Uri. Your research has made family members real. It's not hyperbole to suggest that your effort has allowed the sacrifices of our parents, grandparents and aunts and uncles to speak from the grave. Without their effort, we wouldn't be here today.
